Presentation
The ANTENNE project was born from the observation
that there is no structured form of dialogue and collaboration among different
organisations that are active in the field of fight against discrimination
or that advocate groups of people at risk of discrimination.
The challenge of ANTENNE is to bring different organisations together
in order to increase the impact of local actions against discrimination
by creating a networking system and, moreover, to improve communication
and exchange among different categories of victims of discrimination,
and help them overcome any feeling of mutual mistrust and rejection.
In
2000 the City of Modena, Centro
Stranieri, has submitted the ANTENNE project to the European Commission,
DG
Employment and Social Affairs, for funding. The project was conceived
in the framework of 2000
call for proposals for pilot projects in the field of anti-discrimination.
The project was selected for a co-funding of approximately 75% of total
costs and the implementation started in 2001.
The project will last 12 months and will be based on both local and transnational
activities to be carried out within a networking system involving public
and private organisations and NGOs that are active in the fight against
discrimination.
Working
together with the support and supervision of external experts should allow
the project partners
and the members of the local anti-discrimination networks (LANs) to elaborate
a common and global strategy for preventing and combating discrimination,
with special regard to multiple discrimination.
The
project will contribute to the European strategy for implementing article
13 of the EC
Treaty, and fighting
against discrimination based on sex, racial or ethnic origin, religion
or belief, disability, age or sexual orientation.
