On show is the substantial collection of dies and cones for coins and medals, consisting of about 100 items produced by the Modena Mint in the centuries when the city was the capital of the Duchy. The division into sections provides an overview of the coin making process from the numismatic, technical, and historical-artistic points of view. 7-29 March 1998

The 120 masterpieces of the Linz Nordic Museum illustrate the evolution of drawing technique from the XVI century to the start of our century. From the drawings of Tommaso Laureti for Neptune’s Fountain in Bologna, to those of Salviati, Perin del Vaga, Guercino, Palma il Giovane, da Corot, Manet, Degas, and Gauguin up to the sensational Vienna period with Klimt, Kokoschka, and Schiele, the exhibition is an incredible journey into of the workshops of the masters of European art. 30 May - 11 October

The sanctuary of the blessed virgin of Fiorano is a traditional center of devotion to Maria in Modena Province and it houses a collection of offerings going back to the XVII and XVIII centuries. This initiative is intended to open to the general public the collection and areas that up until now were inaccessible, and will go ahead in parallel with the restoration work on the Sanctuary that has been underway for some years. 5 September - 30 November 1998
On occasion of the reopening of the first floor of the Sassuolo Ducal Palace, 40 pages of important Italian masters are returning to Italy for the first time by concession of the Gabinet du Dessins del Louvre. These include Niccolò dell’Abate, Annibale Carracci, Guercino, Parmigianino, together with another 30 pages from the Estense Gallery. 5 September - 4 October 1998

Dedicated to the court and in particular the ducal collections this exhibition is the central element in the ‘98 initiative. It attempts to recreate the ancient Estense Gallery, which was one of the most important in Europe in the middle of the XVII century. The historical story of the collection is represented by the surviving masterpieces from the Gallery and important works recovered from the Gemalegalerie of Dresden, Chantilly, the Prado of Madrid, the Louvre, and the National Gallery of London. The Church of St. Paul is being reopened to the public for the occasion and will house "Art in the Convent", an exhibition of paintings and liturgical decorations from the ancient monastery and Girl’s School of St. Paul. The exhibition includes important pictures with three altar-pieces originally from the Francescan church of S. Margherita, some room paintings, XVII century canvasses from the convent and various liturgical items. 10 December 1998 - 28 February 1999
A number of important altar-pieces, and numerous examples of decorative art will be exhibited to the public in the Church of St. Adrian. Many of these have been recently restored.
