DA CENNINI A WARHOL, READING SUL CONTEMPORANEO. Saturday 9th october, 6.00pm

A peculiar kind of round table will be held on Saturday 9th October from 6pm: the public meeting that the Galleria Civica di Modena has prepared for the occasion of the sixth Giornata del Contemporaneo organised by the AMACI, the Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museum.

The initiative, which will be held in the Sala Grande, in Palazzo Santa Margherita at corso Canalgrande 103, will consist of a reading of excepts chosen from a wide range of literature and art criticism both past and present addressing the concept of contemporariness.

Artists and works will be brought to life thanks to the interpretations of professional readers as well as figures of a range of different backgrounds, invited to take part by reading literary passages of their own choosing. From Cennino Cennini to Paolo Veronese, from Mark Rothko to Andy Warhol, from David Hume to Cesare Brandi: a showcase of a diverse spectrum of texts in search of a definition of contemporary art.

The event – free and open to the public – demonstrates the commitment of the Galleria Civica to the promotion of contemporary art. Just like the previous editions of the Giornata del Contemporaneo, the event has two main aims: to raise public awareness, encouraging interest and promoting opportunities to come into contact with contemporary art, and to stimulate other institutions to acknowledge the role that contemporary art plays in the development of both cultural identity and socio-economic innovation throughout the country.

The Giornata del Contemporaneo is an important event which, all in all, involves 26 cultural institutions, and in which the Galleria Civica di Modena has taken part right from the first edition, with meetings, events and performances.
