This project evolved as part of Kaleidoscope, a programme which came to a close at the end of 1999; it then went on to form part of the framework programme Culture 2000.
The objective is to promote an awareness of European Culture through the sharing of cultural experiences between member States, enhancing the skills of the artists and other operators in the sector in order to guarantee better access to culture on behalf of European citizens.
Thanks to the community contribution granted to Corto Circuito, three touring photography exhibitions were organised in Madrid, Modena and Oulu, in order to allow the Spanish public to admire the creations of young Italian and Finnish artists, to allow the Italian public to appreciate Finnish and Spanish artworks, and for the Finnish public to get to see the new trends in Spanish and Italian photography.
A careful selection of the artists whose work was on display made it possible to provide visitors with a complete overview of the potential provided by photography as a means of expression. The cities that took part in the project show a strong desire to be included in the international exhibition circuit, and most of all, to focus their attention on the up-and-coming generations of artistic production in Europe.
