Grow Green - “Nature-Based Solutions” for climate and water resilence

Cities for Climate and Water Resilience, Sustainable Economic Growth, Healthy Citizens and Environments

The City of Modena is partner of Grow Green, a project co-financed by the “Horizon 2020” EU programme.

The aim of the project is to improve climate and water resilience and to help addressing problems as flooding and heat islands, through the use of “Nature-Based Solutions” (NBS).

NBS are tools using nature e natural functions of healthy ecosystems, in order to face environmental and climate changes challenges, with benefits affecting also the economic and social contexts.

Increase green areas in cities, for example, can bring to an increase of tourism, can offer recreational opportunities to citizens, can contribute to the decrease both of temperatures and of pollutants levels in urban areas.

NBS solutions bring benefits also from a social and economic point of view and in terms of wellbeing of citizens.

With this project, the frontrunner cities of Manchester, Valencia, Wroclaw and Wuhan and the follower cities of Brest, Zara and Modena aim at testing a methodology that could be replicated in other contexts and that could allow the development and adoption of Nature-Based Solutions in urban areas.

Frontrunner are the more advanced cities driving the development and the test, whereas follower are the learning cities.
