On the occasion of the opening weekend of the exhibition dedicated to Josef Albers, to be inaugurated on Saturday 8th October at 6pm in the two Galleria Civica di Modena exhibition venues, Sunday 9th October in Palazzo Santa Margherita will be given over to the analysis and certification of Albers’ works held in private collections, by the Josef & Anni Albers Foundation.

The prestigious American institution is in fact preparing the general catalogue of Josef Albers’ paintings, and thus invites collectors to have works in their possession examined in order to verify the authenticity and value of their collector items. Whoever wishes to take advantage of this opportunity is invited to make an appointment in order to visit the offices of the Galleria Civica di Modena, in corso Canalgrande 103, on Sunday 9th October between 10.30am and 1pm, or 3pm and 6.30pm. Further information and appointments may be had via email by writing to or

Curated by the director of the Galleria Civica of Modena, Marco Pierini, the exhibition sets out to trace all the key stages of the artist’s career, from his years at the Bauhaus in Weimar, Dessau and Berlin, through to those at Black Mountain College and lastly his time at Yale University, to those in which, having retired from teaching, he dedicated himself exclusively to his painting.

Co-produced by the Galleria Civica di Modena and the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Modena , the exhibition has been organised with the collaboration of the Josef & Anni Albers Foundation in Bethany (Connecticut) which – with one single exception – has lent all the 175 works on show. The Terra Foundation for American Art in Chicago has also given its support to the project through a contribution of $50,000.

The exhibition, to be inaugurated on the occasion of the 7th “Contemporary Day” promoted by AMACI, will remain open to the public until 8th January 2012 with the following opening times: Tuesday – Friday 10.30am – 1pm; 3pm – 6pm; Saturday, Sunday and public holidays 10.30am -7pm; closed on Mondays.
